PATIENT TESTIMONIALS

Excellent practice! So great that there is a walk-in clinic that will address mental health issues. I got my ESA letter from a licensed therapist. Don’t get scammed online. The only letters airlines and landlords will accept are from a licensed therapist, in your state. You don’t want to get to the airport and your ESA is denied entry.

Understanding Amino Acids

Your body is made up of many different components, all of which work to help you have the healthiest body possible. Various parts work in conjunction with one another to provide you with helpful blood cells and hormones that keep you functioning properly. Many of these things that make up your immune and nervous system combine and change their functions to make sure everything in the human body is working as intended.

Among the many different systems in the body, amino acids are major compounds that have their hand in nearly everything that goes on. They help the body form proteins, which means allowing the body to grow, heal, and break down food. This also means amino acids can break down and serve as energy.

Amino acids come in three categories: essential, nonessential, and conditional. Essential amino acids have to come from food; nonessential amino acids do not have to come from food, meaning our bodies can produce them. Conditional amino acids tend to only come in handy if our body needs it, such as when we are ill. Having a healthy variety in your diet contributes to this balance of amino acids. There are also different ways to make sure you get the right kind of protein, in case your diet does not feature certain food groups.

What Is L-Arginine?

What Is L-Arginine

Arginine, also known as L-arginine, is an a-amino acid that can be found in most food and can be synthesized within the body. It can be classified as both essential and conditional, as arginine can be supplied by the foods we eat, supplements taken, and within our bodies. How we get arginine and in what quantities varies; some people have no problems getting arginine or don’t need more, while others need it for growth purposes, or may have a very rare deficiency.

Most people who get arginine will have it in them already just from their regular diet. It’s not uncommon in the slightest and helps widen and relax your blood vessels by helping create nitric oxide. In addition to that, arginine also helps the body heal its wounds, which is part of what makes it a semi-essential amino acid. It can also help you with your immune system, which means it will keep you healthy in a regular capacity.

Even though arginine is easily gained from the body and the foods we eat, it can also be taken as a supplement. This makes sense if you are low on arginine for whatever reason, but it if you want or need more, it can be helpful. However, it is important to know that taking in more arginine in supplement form can cause side-effects, such as an upset stomach. However, these side-effects are unlikely if you try to get more arginine via food.

Since adults tend to get arginine from the foods they eat, you want to make sure you get certain foods in your diet. These include meats like turkey, chicken, and pork; you can also eat soybeans and peanuts, along with dairy products. No matter your diet, you should be able to get enough arginine in your diet with the variety of foods that provide it.

What Does L-Arginine Do Sexually

Among the benefits of increased arginine is improving the sexual health of men with erectile dysfunction. While not a hard science, it has been said and proven to different degrees that arginine can help those with ED. Ideally, since arginine helps widen the blood vessels, it allows for better blood flow throughout the body. Better and healthier blood flow through the arteries means more blood flow to the penis, thus better chance at having a healthy and normal erection.

That said, arginine on its own does not necessarily improve erectile dysfunction completely. It does keep you healthy and promote blood flow, but no concrete scientific evidence proves it will fully cure you of ED. However, there are some combinations with arginine that do help.

If your ED is not too severe, you can combine an arginine supplement with yohimbine hydrochloride. A more potent mix is arginine and Pycnogenol, which is a supplement made from pine tree bark (Pycnogenol is the registered trademarked name). A study demonstrated improvement in the erections of men ranging several ages; the combination of the two supplements also did not cause side-effects common in ED medication. erectile-dysfunction-causes-and-treatments.jpg

Knowing the causes and treatments of erectile dysfunction requires an in-depth understanding of how erections work and the psychological and physiological factors that bring them about. An erection is part and parcel of the male physiognomy and is caused by increased blood flow through the penis. This increased blood flow is usually caused by either direct contact with the penis or the stimulations of sexual thought. Basically, erections are neurovascular events, which means that the veins, arteries, and nerves all need to function properly for them to occur.

What is Erectile Dysfunction?

Getting an erection is a complex process that involves the peripheral nervous system, the central nervous system, psychological and physiologic factors, vascular (i.e., circulation or blood flow) and hormonal components, as well as local factors within the penis. Erections happen in response to smell, touch, visual or auditory stimuli, any of which may cause the brain to send information to the nerve centers located along the spine’s base. The nerve fibers located here are responsible for the regulation of blood flow before, during and after erections.

Erectile dysfunction or impotence is the inability to get or sustain an erection long enough for the satisfactory completion of sexual activity. It is a subset of sexual dysfunction and can occur if any of the psychological or physiological processes required to get or maintain an erection is disrupted. The factors that cause erectile dysfunction are classified into two: psychological factors and physiological factors.

erectile dysfunction or impotence

Psychological Factors of ED

Some studies show that this is the most common cause of erectile dysfunction, although it usually coexists with other functional or physical causes. Inability to get an erection often produces an emotional and psychological reaction in those affected, and this, in turn, produces a pattern of stress, low self-esteem, and anxiety that further interferes with sexual performance. This is termed “performance anxiety” and should be addressed immediately by your preferred healthcare provider.

Several areas of the brain are involved in sexual behavior, and as such, psychogenic ED may induce the brain to send messages that prevent or inhibit erections. Psychogenic ED may occur due to stressors which cause the release of catecholamines that tighten penile muscles and prevents them from relaxing. Also, feelings such as self-consciousness or nervousness about sex, stress at home or the workplace, troubled feelings or feelings of insecurity about your sexual relationships can contribute to psychogenic ED.

In such cases, successful treatment will include psychotherapy or psychological counseling for both partners. Medications used in the treatment of psychological issues may also cause ED, and it is advised to consult a physician before discontinuing any medication.

Physical Factors of ED

Physiological erectile dysfunction has been linked to a number of factors such as hormonal imbalance, sleep disorders, or simply a matter of age. From the age of 40 and above, most men will experience some form of ED. They will notice that achieving erections will take more time and effort and sustaining it will become more challenging. Hormonal imbalance is another cause of physiological ED especially in men having pituitary gland problems or having excess estrogen in their system, due to obesity. Some of the common causes of physiological ED include the following:

  •    High blood pressure and cholesterol
  •    Metabolic syndrome, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease
  •    Diabetes and obesity
  •    Peyronie’s disease and sleep disorders
  •    Alcoholism and substance abuse
  •    Enlarged prostate or prostate cancer treatments
  •    Injuries or surgeries that affect the spinal cord or pelvic area.
  •    Radiation treatments for cancer
  •    Medications such as antihistamines, antidepressants, and prescription drugs that treat prostate, pain, high blood pressure, etc.

If you have one or more of these underlying conditions, treating them may be enough to reverse ED.

One of the common questions asked by men who experience some form of erectile dysfunction is when they should see a healthcare professional. For individuals who experience ED on occasion, for instance, less than 5 percent of the time, medical attention may not be required. However, if the frequency increases or you experience erection induced pain, you should seek the help of a medical professional.

If you have or suspect that you have erectile dysfunction or issues with your sexual performance, it is best to seek the advice of an experienced healthcare professional. You should choose a medical clinic that employs professional staff with years of experience in treating the causes and symptoms of erectile dysfunction. Whether the cause is physical or psychological, they should have different treatment options that can be tailored to meet your specific needs. They should also have operating hours that suit your schedule, so you don’t have to worry about missing an appointment.
